RUNFLAT

There is a difference between run-flat tires and run-flat systems. Both possibilities can be supplied by us. On a run-flat tire, the side wall is reinforced, which makes sure that the car (while the tire is deflating) can still  keep driving.

In addition, a run-flat system is one of the possibilities too. In doing so a ring will be attached around the rim, with on top of that the tire itself. This ring makes it possible to keep driving when you get a flat tire. With this method a driver can escape a threatening situation, while looking for a safe location. Having the possibility to keep driving is your first safety.

A tire that’s deflating can still keep running for 30 kilometers with a run flat tire and the run flat system, at a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour. The choice depends on the weight of the vehicle.

GLASS

In order to have a safe car, using the right kind of glass is crucial.

Bulletproof glass

For a well-armoured car, our premium quality glass is vital. The glass doesn’t only provide – because of advanced technology – an optimal protection against external attacks (think about fire-arms or striking weapons), but it also provides the sensation of serene isolation within the vehicle, because the glass has an excellent sound suppression. This glass is about 20mm thick and is custom made by our vendor. To be able to put an extra thick piece of glass into the door, adjustments have to be made to the door panel and the mechanism of the electric windows. All of these operations take place in our workplace.

Product Specs bulletproof glass:

  • Nationally (TNO EN-1063) and internationally tested and certified
  • Steelglass solution
  • Looks exactly the same as an ordinary window
  • Available in different shades
  • Side windows can almost completely be opened up (category B4)

Break-resistant glass

If you choose to not armour your car, but you do like to be protected against any external influences, break-resistant glass is your go-to option.
The original car window will be fitted with a special foil that enhances the window, so it will be protected from an impact.

In accordance with the standard EN356

BODYWORK

To be able to armour the vehicle, the car has to be dismantled first. Hereafter each panel and screen will be covered with various materials, such as steel or bulletproof plastics. The benefit of these plastics is that it’s lightweight but rock-solid. Furthermore there will be adjustments made for the thick, bulletproof glass, which will be placed after a precise quality control. All of these modifications will be made without being visible in the end. The men who take care of the bodywork, will also take care of the assembly of all the parts, such as: interior, the panels, the hood and the trunk.

DOOR ARMOURING

The doors will be taken out of the vehicle and will get, in a separate space, a big reconstruction. When the bulletproof glass is going to be placed, the first thing we have to do, because of the weight and the thickness of the  glass, is place a support mechanism in the window mechanism. Additionally, armoured materials will be placed inside the doors and jambs. Several 3D techniques make sure we can reconstruct a door, while making sure it looks as close as possible to the original appearance. Lastly, all of the doors are fitted with the altered upholstery and placed back into the vehicle.

THE FLOOR

Protecting the floor of the vehicle is an option too. The whole floor, including the fuel tank, will be fitted with metal, which will minimise the loss of ground clearance. This is important while, for example, driving over ramps. This protection is tested by TNO and has obtained the ERV 2010 class 1 standards, it protects against a DM51 hand grenade.

TRUNK LOCK

A trunk lock turns your trunk into a safe.

Protecting your valuables has been in the spot lights these last few years. This is caused by the increase of the amount of car burglaries, which have quadrupled during the last few years.  Losing valuables is more than unpleasant, but privacy plays a big part in this too. The theft of a laptop with very valuable and private information can have enormous consequences for the person in question.

Van Berkel offers an appropriate and a particularly suitable solution with a trunk lock. Depending on the vehicle, we’ll look at the best solution: a frame construction that gets concealed (for SUV-hatchback-station wagon) and a locking system with heavy quill handles, totally disconnected from the original trunk lock. Both versions can be opened with a unique code put into a digital control panel which can be hidden inside the vehicle.

Advantages of a trunk lock:

  • Trunk stays locked when the car is opened
  • The extra lock-in of the trunk makes burglary more difficult
  • Not visible from the outside
  • Safely storing valuable items into the trunk or cargo space
  • Possible for all vehicles

Our guys are inventive and together with the customer we’ll look at all the possibilities. ‘Impossible doesn’t exist – it already says I’m possible’, is a common phrase in our workplace. We will do everything to make sure it does work.

We also install car kits, radio telephones and other speech or display equipment. Once again discrete and inventive. Every time it’s a fun challenge for our guys to make something beautiful out of it.
